Do you really know how to effectively organize? Here’s some tips:
1. Take an INVENTORY of what you have by removing everything from drawers, shelves and hangers.
2. Place it on the floor in piles. SORT through each pile individually and decide to keep, throw or donate the items. KEEP means you wear it often. DONATE means you haven’t worn it in more than 1 year and it’s still wearable. THROW means the item is worn out, has holes or is ripped.
3. CATEGORIZE your clothes, handbags, shoes and accessories.
4. Use tote bags, zippered pouches, baskets and boxes to SORT your items. You can sort by color or type such as denim shorts, yellow dresses or sports socks.
5. Use wooden hangers to ensure the shape of your clothes stay as-is. Wood is also eco-friendly.
For your DONATE pile, you can drop them off at a local organization such as the women’s center or a church. These items will benefit your local community.
For your THROW pile, find a local textile organization that properly recycles the actual cloth so it doesn’t end up in the landfill for thousands of years.
Cheers to a minimalistic life!
